The Dolan Technology Center
offers a staff of flexible, resourceful experts in instrumentation
development/implementation, test formulation/implementation, EMI and acoustic
measurements, and technical support. We bring to your project expertise gained
from the long history and vast knowledge of supporting AEPs distribution,
transmission and generation companies, along with a keen focus on new
electrotechnology developments.
Expertise
Our staff is experienced in
engineering and design of instrumentation for measurement and test control. We
use circuit simulation and computer-aided design software to produce electronic
circuits and systems that include initial and final layout, design, and
in-house fabrication of the prototype printed circuit boards.
For tests requiring computer
control or computer gathering/transforming, expertise is available in the area
of computer and software development and application.
In addition, we provide
consulting services in the areas of grounding and shielding, power quality
investigations, electronics systems surge protection and electromagnetic
compatibility, EMI signature analysis activities pertaining to rotating
machinery, and fiber optic technology. We can also reengineer and fabricate
circuit boards for no-longer-available electronic equipment. (these can be
linked)
Dolan Technology Center
personnel also provide power cable inspection services.

Over the years, a variety of
test sources and measurement equipment has been assembled in response to
specific test requests. Four high voltage sources, with a maximum voltage
output of 1200 kVac, including a 500 kV trailer-mounted unit, are available for
dielectric testing.
Currents up to 6,000 A continuous
can be obtained from either of two high current test sets. In-service
conditions such as temperature, humidity, rain, fog, salt spray, ice, and high
voltage (up to 200 kV) are simulated using environmental chambers. Components
such as insulators, conductors, and hardware can be subjected to tensile or
compressive forces up to 120,000 lbs. while energized up to 100 kV. Thermal
probes enable the thermal resistivity of cable backfill material to be
determined.
